RAS Deze week begint sjabbat en is ma’ariv om 18:30 uur.
Sasha van Ravenswade dawent voor op sjabbatochtend.
De kidoesj wordt aangeboden door Ruben Troostwijk ter gelegenheid van zijn bar mitswa sidra.
Deze week is er ook weer een kinderdienst om 10.30 uur.

Zondagochtend, 20 maart: megillah lezen om 9:15 gevolgd door een grootse Poeriem Brunch!

It was in the days following the first exile when King Achashvairosh ruled the land of Persia. His wicked advisor, Haman, was angered by the fact that Mordechai the Jew refused to bow to him. When Haman came to Achashvairosh with his plan to choose a day where the whole country would wage war against the Jews to annihilate them, he approached the king with the prophetic words “there is a nation who is scattered out amongst us.” Read more…

Parashat Va’Yakel – Rabbijn Mamlok
In last weeks parasha, Parashat Ki Tisa, we read of the story of the golden calf. To make the golden calf, when the women of the Jewish Nation were asked for their golden jewelery for its creation, they refused. Not even one woman donated her jewelery for the purpose of building the golden calf. In contrast, in this weeks parasha, Parashat VaYakel, we find that for the purpose of building the Mishkan, the tabernacle, the Jewish woman were happy to donate their valuable jewelery for this purpose. Parashat Ki Tisa – Rabbijn Mamlok
In this weeks parasha, Parashat Ki Tisa, the Jewish Nation is given the commandment of Machasit HaShekel, a yearly donation to the Mishkan, the tabernacle, of one half of a silver shekel coin. This donation was money that went toward the communal sacrifices that were offered on behalf of the entire nation. Although at other times each person was able to donate the amount that he wanted and felt that he was able, during the time of the collection of the Machasit HaShekel each person was commanded to give the same amount, whether rich or poor. Even a poor man who was sustained throughout the year by the charity of others was not exempt from the mitzva of giving a half shekel coin during the yearly collection. Although not a large sum of money, it was of great importance that each person give, and give the same amount. Why? And why are we specifically commanded to give a half of a shekel coin, and not a full shekel coin? Read more…

Moshe’s name omitted
This week’s Parasha, Parashat TiTzave, starts with the words “ViAta TiTzave et Binai Yisrael”, “And you shall command the Jewish Nation.” Normally, when Hashem tells Moshe to give information or a commandment to the Jewish People, the Torah writes “And Hashem told Moshe saying…”. Here however, Moshe’s name is omitted. And further, from the time that Moshe Rabainu’s birth is recorded in the Torah, there is not one Parasha where Moshe Rabbainu’s name is omitted, except for this week’s Parasha, Parashat TiTzave. This Shabbat we celebrate Rosh Chodesh Adar Alef, the first day of the Jewish month of Adar I (this year it is a leap year and thus we essentially have 2 months of Adar- Adar alef and Adar Bet).
We increase our happiness
It is written about the month of Adar “MiShenichnas Adar, marbin bi’simcha”, when the month of Adar enters, we increase our happiness. In Adar we celebrate the holiday of Purim, a day when we have a special mitzva to be happy in recognition of our miraculous salvation from the hands of our enemies in the time of the Babylonian exile. Although the actual holiday of Purim will be celebrated in Adar bet, even on the 14th day of Adar alef we celebrate a “Purim Katan”, a small Purim where we have a small festive meal in commemoration of our salvation from our enemies. In our Parasha, Parashat Jitro, the Torah describes for us the spectacular event of the giving of the Torah. We read how the Jewish people were camped around Mount Sinai, Moshe Rabbainu ascends to the top, and G-d Himself descends on the mountain to give us the Aseret HaDibrot, the ten commandments. At that time, the Torah describes how the Jewish people stood united, “KiEesh Echad BiLev Echad”- like one person with one heart, and together uttered the words “Naase Vi’nishma”, we will do and we will listen. De Parasja van de week (Rabbijn Mamlok)
In this weeks parasha, Parashat BeShalach, we read about two wars that were fought by the Jewish nation in the desert and in both, with the help of G-d, the Jewish people emerged victorious. The first war, recounted at the beginning of the Parasha, is the war fought against the Egyptians who, after letting the Jewish people out of Egypt, then regretted having freed them and pursued them into the desert. It was then that G-d miraculously saved the Jewish nation by parting for them the Red Sea so that they were able to safely cross through on dry land. However, when the Egyptians entered after them, the walls of the Sea closed in on them and drowned them. The second war, at the end of the parasha, is the war fought against the nation of Amalek. In this war too the Jewish people emerged in a miraculous victory with the help of G-d. Read more…
